Perceptions of Farming: Describe Farming to a Martian
MY HISTORY WITH FARMING:
In all honesty, I have absolutely no personal connection to farming. I've always been interested in the history of farming and its impact and influence on American culture, but have never actually studied it.

MY PERCEPTION OF FARMING:
A farmer is an individual who cultivates the natural resources of vast fields of land. S/he uses both rudimentary tools and heavy, motorized equipment and vehicles to grow and harvest grains and other foods. By necessity, s/he is physical powerful, yet often looks weary due to long hours in the field. S/he s a crucial figure in American culture because s/he grows the food available for mass consumption. However, his or her influence is often unappreciated.
